Capturing Murray’s life story in his own words
This life story video was created for Murray and his family, commissioned by his son, Col.
Col knew his dad had stories worth preserving. Stories from childhood. Stories about family, sport, marriage, children and grandchildren. Stories that had been shared over the years, but had never been captured properly in Murray’s own voice.
So we sat Murray down, made the conversation all about him, and gave him the space to tell his story.
The story behind the project
How often does someone sit down and say, “Today is all about you”?
That was the heart of this project.
Col wanted to record his dad’s life story because he knew Murray had so much to share. He had memories from his childhood, stories about his parents, stories about his sporting days, and beautiful memories of meeting his wife, Joan.
He also had stories about his children, his grandchildren, the life he had built and the way he hoped to be remembered.
At first, there were cameras in the room.
But very quickly, Murray settled in. He relaxed, forgot the cameras were there and started telling his story in a way that felt natural, warm and completely his own.
He laughed. He joked. He remembered. He became emotional.
And when he spoke about meeting Joan, the emotion in his face said everything.
The challenge
A life story video is not about forcing someone to perform.
It is about creating a space where someone feels comfortable enough to open up.
Our role was to help Murray feel relaxed, respected and fully heard. The cameras needed to fade into the background, so the conversation could feel personal and real.
The goal was to capture Murray as he truly is.
His voice.
His words.

His mannerisms.

Not a scripted version of his life.

Our approach
A conversation, not an interview
We guided Murray through his life story in a way that felt natural and relaxed.
The questions helped him remember, reflect and speak in his own words. This allowed the story to unfold with honesty, humour and warmth.
Making the cameras disappear
The filming setup was calm and unobtrusive.
Once Murray settled in, he quickly forgot about the cameras. That allowed us to capture the little details that matter most in a family legacy video.
The smile.
The pause.
The laugh.
The moment a memory becomes emotional.
Capturing more than the facts
A life story interview is not just about dates and milestones.
It is about the way someone tells the story. The tone of their voice. The expressions on their face. The emotion that appears when they talk about the people and moments that shaped them.

The result
By the end of filming, Murray walked away with a massive smile on his face.
He had been given time to reflect on his life, his family, his marriage, his memories and the kind of man he hoped people would remember him as.
After the filming, Col told us, “What you did for our Dad was simply incredible. Dad felt heard.”
The final video is not just a record of Murray’s life. It feels like Murray.
